Then there is Durian. In Singapore it is banned on busses and the subway. Signs in some Thai hotels warn not to bring Durian back to your room (once opened, the outer rind can stink up a whole floor).

I got used to buying a small Papaya every day to cut up for breakfast the next morning.
I've bought fruit for less than ten Baht a Kilo ($0.10 US lb.)
Years later I'm still in price shock back home when I buy inferior Mexican Papayas for $2 a pound!
Among other things, different fruits grow in the North, like strawberries.
