Thai Elephants

Even in the city or on an island an occasional elephant can be seen. Unlike African elephants, many Asian elephants are domesticated. Their important part in Thailand's past logging business has ceased; Thailand is running out of trees! Of course they are a big part of the transit system with the Northern Hilltribes.
A trainer, called a Mahoot, works with an elephant from birth for many years. When one is sold, the price includes the trainer assisting the transformation by working with the new owner and the noble beast for a few years.
